Gambler

I was pleasantly surprised to hear one of my favourite Madonna songs, Gambler, being played in the gym yesterday.

Gambler is a 1985 Madonna song from the movie Vision Quest. The other song from the movie was Crazy For You. Interesting info about the song:
- Released as a single in other parts of the world but not in the US;
- Peaked at #4 in the UK.
- Songwriting credited entirely to Madonna (almost all of her other songs are co-written with others)
- The only single not available in any of her albums.

To me, I like the song as it seemed to have that uptempo "country and western - horse-riding feel". It was nice to be able to workout with one of my favourite songs! Got more energy to lift weights! LOL!

Not a Hunter

Logged on to Axcest and Fridae for a short while just to check if there's any new hearts or messages. But of course there's nothing. What do I expect? My profiles have aged, it's been there like for almost a decade, and I haven't updated my information much. No new photos, no new sales pitch. And I only log on probably like once every two months or so. And even so, briefly... like for a few minutes. The older your profile gets, or the lesser you update or log on, the profile gets stashed underneath thousands of other more new and interesting profiles of the fabulous people in the community.

Thought of updating information about myself, perhaps upload new face pics, but I could think of nothing to type even for the "Introduction" line... yup... no sales pitch! I remembered I used to be quite active many years back... diligently sending hearts hoping to get one in return (and possibly a message which says "Thanks for the heart, I like you, let's meet up") and occasionally muster the courage to write a short message to that attractive candidate. But nothing materialized.

I'm not really bothered to spend hours poring through hundreds of profiles each night hoping to find a mate. I'm not the typical male animal... I'm not a hunter. I'm more of the passive type, prefering to drop hints here and there, and wait for a response. Usually, there is no response lah, cos I'm not a hottie. LOL! Hence, web profiling doesn't really work for me. Perhaps I should just delete them.

Over-rated!

The past one week, "over-rated" was quite the buzzword. It all started when we arrived at the LCCT to check-in for our flight to Jogjakarta.

Tricia: Should we eat on board or eat here now?
Evie: Oh ya, the nasi lemak is apparently quite yummy...
Tricia: Ah... yes yes... I heard they say it is nice... not bad.
Me: (eyes roll upwards) Nice meh? It's over-rated la.

Here's my short list of over-rated places/things/people mentioned during our trip:
- Nasi Lemak on AK flights (not nice la!)
- Borobudur (I think the Prambanan Temple has more character and beauty)
- Ratu Boko palace (kinda boring without our camwhore)
- Kraton (this is extremely over-rated! Waste of time! LOL!)
- Bakso (haiya... these are just meatballs!)
- Jalan Malioboro (vendors selling essentially the same stuff)
- Those colourful JCo/BA/DD donuts (so expensive!)
- Michael Jackson (yeah, he was super in the early 80s with his music, dance and videos, but after his Bad album, I think he was just merely over-rated based on his past glory)

I can't remember what else was mentioned by one of us to be over-rated.

Do share what you think is over-rated...

Get Serious!

I was surprised that I received a telephone call from a research consulting firm this evening. The interviewer claimed that the research firm is currently representing a client who wants to conduct a survey of Malaysian citizens on their perception of quality of life in Malaysia. And the interviewer had randomly chosen my name ~ apparently the interviewer picked my name from the telephone directory listing which I didn't know existed ... This is the second time my name was randomly picked for a telephone interview since 3 years ago on the quality of gym services ~ ish! If only I was so lucky to have been picked to win RM3 million jackpot lottery!

The interviewer, a girl, quickly launched her interview and bombarded me with questions .... but I had to stop her to verify that she was genuine and not some form of scam. She seemed to be in a hurry to want to finished her questions ... probably over exhausted from calling hundreds of people up! So I interviewed her back first, asking her details of her firm, the purpose of the survey and her client. She didn't know who her client was and I am sure it must be some form of confidentiality involved... but I didn't push it further, as her interview questions seem to be serious in nature.

So there were questions on how I would rate selected serious issues in Malaysia, and what I think if the government of the new PM would be able to make significant improvements on these issues in the next couple of years. Issues such as corruption, taxes, public transport, environment, health services, education system, race-based politics, etc etc.... I only have to give simple "yes" and "no" answers, and give ratings on importance of each issue. I can't help but suspect that her anonymous client was a political entity, rather than an NGO or a commercial enterprise.
